Jasprit Bumrah, the main fast bowler for India, won’t be playing in the fourth Test against England in Ranchi. Initially, there was talk of resting him for the third Test, and now it’s confirmed he won’t be in the fourth either.
After India’s impressive win in the third Test in Rajkot, where they won by a big margin, Bumrah is unlikely to travel with the team to Ranchi. He might instead head to Ahmedabad on Monday while the team leaves on Tuesday.
It’s said that whether Bumrah will play in the final Test in Dharamsala depends on how the fourth Test goes. If India wins in Ranchi, they’ll lead the series 3-1, making them the series winners.

Bumrah needs some rest to manage his workload. There’s a lot of cricket coming up, like the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the T20 World Cup. He had a tough time with injuries, especially a back-stress fracture that needed surgery last year. He only returned to play just before the 2023 World Cup.
In this series against England, Bumrah has been amazing. He’s taken the most wickets, 17 in total, even though the pitches have mostly favored spinners. He has bowled a lot, nearly 81 overs across three Tests.
Earlier, Mohammed Siraj was rested for the second Test in Visakhapatnam. It’s not clear yet if the team will get a replacement player for Bumrah. Mukesh Kumar, who was freed from the third Test to play for his state team, will rejoin the squad in Ranchi.

So, Bumrah will take some time off to rest his body, and the team will have to manage without him for the crucial fourth Test in Ranchi. This decision has been made to ensure Bumrah remains fit for the upcoming challenges, including the IPL and the T20 World Cup, which are just around the corner. It’s essential for the team to balance the workload of their key players, especially someone as crucial as Bumrah, to maintain peak performance throughout the season.
The fast bowler’s return from injury has been remarkable, but it’s crucial to manage his workload carefully to prevent any setbacks. Given his recent history with injuries, it’s understandable why the team management is taking a cautious approach towards his participation in matches.
As for the upcoming Test in Ranchi, it will be a test of India’s bowling depth without Bumrah spearheading the attack. However, with players like Siraj stepping up in his absence previously, the team remains confident in their ability to perform well.

Additionally, the inclusion of Mukesh Kumar back into the squad provides them with another option in the fast bowling department. While Bumrah’s absence will be felt, it also presents an opportunity for other bowlers to showcase their skills and contribute to the team’s success. Another young bowler Akash Deep is likely to make his debut in Bumrah’s absence.
While it’s disappointing for fans not to see Bumrah in action, his rest is a necessary step to ensure his long-term fitness and availability for future matches. The team will have to adapt and strategize accordingly for the upcoming Test, but they remain focused on securing victory and continuing their dominant performance against England.
