IND vs ENG 4th Test: Who will step in for Jasprit Bumrah during the 4th India vs. England Test in Ranchi? Bumrah, the bowler who has taken almost one-third of India’s total wickets (60) in this series, is likely to be rested. The fourth Test match begins on Friday in Ranchi.
Despite the series being expected to favor spinners, Bumrah leads the wicket-taking list with 17 scalps, boasting an impressive average of 13.65. Nine of those wickets were claimed in the second Test, marking his best-ever performance on home soil. This contributed significantly to India’s comeback win in Vizag and their lead in Rajkot in the third Test.
Throughout the series, Bumrah has bowled the most overs among Indian bowlers, totaling 80.5 overs. Consequently, it’s prudent to give him a break in Ranchi to manage his workload. However, this raises the question of who will fill Bumrah’s shoes, considering his significant contribution to India’s bowling success.

India’s options for Bumrah’s replacement include Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep. The team has stuck to a two-seamer, three-spinner combination, which proved effective in securing victories in the second and third Tests. Mukesh, initially part of the squad, was released ahead of the third Test after a modest performance in Vizag.
However, he showcased an outstanding performance in a Ranji Trophy game, claiming a career-best 10 wickets. Alternatively, India might opt to debut Akash Deep, who has recently impressed in India A matches, taking 11 wickets.
Alternatively, India could adjust their strategy and opt for an extra spinner. Except for the third Test, India has used only one seamer, with limited overs bowled by the second seamer. If Ranchi offers a turning pitch, India may consider adding Axar Patel or Washington Sundar to complement the existing spin lineup of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav.

KL Rahul’s return to the team raises the question of who will make way for him. Rahul missed the second Test due to quadriceps pain and failed to recover in time for the third Test. However, he is set to return for the Ranchi match, as confirmed by India’s captain, Rohit Sharma.
If Rahul returns, Rajat Patidar, who hasn’t made a significant impact in his first two Tests, will likely be replaced, because Sarfaraz Khan is playing very good at the moment. Sarfaraz scored fifties in both innings of his debut match. Patidar made his debut in Vizag but has only scored 46 runs in four innings, including a duck.
