A match between India and Pakistan is always special, and the fact that the two nations have not played any bilateral cricket since 2012 means that their match is one that is always looked forward to in multi-nation tournaments such as ICC World Cups or even the Asia Cup.

And while India’s record in ICC tournaments against Pakistan is stellar – they’ve only ever lost thrice to Pakistan in ICC-held events – it is a little less comprehensive as far as the Asia Cup is concerned. Of the 16 matches played, India have won 9 whereas Pakistan have won 6, with one match having no result.

With 2023 set to host the Asia Cup yet again, here’s a look at the history of all matches that have been played between the two nations in the tournament. The 1997 Asia Cup game, which had no result, won’t be featured on this list.

After India pulled out of the 1986 Asia Cup, the two rivals met again in the third edition of the Asia Cup. And once again it was India who won a low-scoring thriller of an encounter against their arch-rivals.

The two rivals next faced off in 1995, thanks to Pakistan pulling out of the previous edition of the tournament in 1990-91. And Pakistan finally managed to register their first ever win over India in this particular tournament.

A blistering 88 from Inzamam-ul-Haq helped Pakistan put up a commanding total of 266-9 in their 50 overs. In response, Aaqib Javed ripped through India’s batting order as they could only post 169 before being dismissed in the 43rd over. Pakistan won by 97 runs.

A Yousuf Youhana ton took Pakistan to a total of 295-7 in their 50 overs, considered a nearly impossible score to chase. Ajay Jadeja kept India in the hunt with a 93 of his own but it proved too stiff a task for the Indians, who were bundled out for 251. Pakistan won by 44 runs.

Ind Vs Pak Asia Cup 2004

A ton from Shoaib Malik (143) took Pakistan to 300-9 in their 50 overs. In response, India were always pegged back by the asking rate and despite Sachin Tendulkar hitting a fighting 78, slumped to a tame loss in the Super Four round. Pakistan won by 59 runs.

Shoaib Malik was once again the star for Pakistan in this Asia Cup group game, as he scored a blistering 100 that took Pakistan to 299-4 in their 50 overs. However, this time around India had an ace up their sleeve.

That ace was none other than Virender Sehwag, who slammed a 95-ball 119 to ensure India got home with 7.5 overs to spare! India won by 6 wickets.
