MS Dhoni, former Team India captain, was known for supporting his teammates. One notable example is Rohit Sharma, who thrived under Dhoni’s captaincy. Dhoni encouraged Rohit to open the innings in white-ball cricket, a decision that proved to be successful.
However, not all players have had positive experiences with Dhoni. Manoj Tiwary, a cricketer, has accused Dhoni of harming his international career. Tiwary recently retired from first-class cricket and has been vocal about his grievances.
He suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should abolish the Ranji Trophy. This proposal resulted in a 20 percent fine on his match fee. Tiwary also compared himself to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to criticize Dhoni’s decisions.

During his career, Tiwary achieved significant milestones. He played 148 first-class matches for Bengal, amassing over 10,000 runs. Despite his success in domestic cricket, he had limited opportunities in international cricket. Tiwary represented India in 12 ODIs, scoring 287 runs with one century. However, he was often overlooked during Dhoni’s captaincy.
Tiwary’s situation changed when Ajinkya Rahane became the captain in 2015. Under Rahane’s leadership, Tiwary returned to the Playing XI and had the chance to showcase his skills. He also played in three T20Is, but his performances were not noteworthy.

In a conversation with Medal, Tiwary criticized Dhoni, stating, “I possessed talent like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, but MS Dhoni did not support me. Many young players now receive opportunities to prove themselves, which was not the case during my tenure. It saddens me.”
Overall, while Dhoni’s leadership benefited some players like Rohit Sharma, others like Manoj Tiwary felt neglected and believe their careers suffered as a result.
