The 2023 edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup – or the CWC 2023 for short – is one of the most hotly-anticipated editions of the 50-over World Cup in quite some time.
This is because this year’s edition of the tournament will be held in India and the cricket-crazy nation is already in a frenzy knowing the tournament is coming back to the country.
But what else is known about the tournament? In this article we shall look into some of the more frequently asked questions (FAQs) about this year’s edition of the oldest and most ICC tournament on the cricketing calendar.
CWC 2023 Host
The CWC 2023 will be hosted by India, which is the first time that India are hosting the ODI World Cup since 2011.
Since that time, India have hosted other tournaments – the 2016 T20 World Cup took place in India, whereas the 2021 T20 World Cup was also hosted by the BCCI albeit in UAE due to a spike in COVID-19 cases.
Incidentally, this is the fourth time India are hosting the ODI World Cup – they previously served as hosts in 1987, 1999 and 2011.
But this is also the first time the entirety of the tournament will be held in India. Previously, India have jointly co-hosted with neighbouring nations in the subcontinent like Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

CWC 2023 Logo
The official logo of the CWC 2023 is a simple one, featuring an animation of the Cricket World Cup trophy in purple.
The logo also has a pink design that surrounds the animated World Cup trophy. It is a simple logo and one that is very much in keeping with how recent World Cup logos have been.
CWC 2023 Dates
The actual dates for the tournament are still up in the air, given that the schedule still isn’t out. However, certain media reports have made clear what the dates might be.
The CWC 2023 will likely start on October 5 and the final will be held on November 19. This gives the tournament a run time of over one month.
But given the fact the current format sees all teams play each other in a round robin format, it makes sense the tournament will take place in over a month.
However, it is again worth pointing out that the dates have not yet been officially rubberstamped, either by the ICC or the host governing body the BCCI.

CWC 2023 Teams
The CWC 2023 will see a total of 10 teams battling it out for the right to be crowned world champions. We already know the identity of 8 of those 10 teams.
Those 8 teams are India, England, New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and South Africa.
India qualified automatically as hosts but the rest of the 7 teams qualified on the basis of their performances in the ODI Super League.
The Super League was brought about as a way to give more weightage to ODI bilateral series as well as make the process for qualifying a little more interesting.
However, it has already been scrapped for the next edition of the tournament. The ICC ODI rankings will determine which teams make it directly.
As for the remaining two teams, they will be determined via the Qualifiers event set to be held in Zimbabwe later this year.
What the qualification process is for the next World Cup remains to be seen, however, as the tournament will expand to 14 teams come the 2027 World Cup.
CWC 2023 Final
Again, there is no confirmation as of yet when exactly the final will be taking place. However, the expectation is that the summit clash of the tournament will take place on November 19.
What’s more, the location of the final is set to be Ahmedabad – with the newly-built Narendra Modi Stadium the chosen venue for the match.
This isn’t much of a surprise, given the new stadium has seen a number of important games hosted here in recent times due to its new nature and state-of-the-art, modern architecture.
The 2022 and 2023 IPL finals were also hosted in this stadium.

CWC 2023 Schedule
The final of CWC 2023 will take place on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The opening game will be taking place on October 5 and will be a rematch of the last final – England vs New Zealand, a match that bears the air of a grudge game.
India’s opening game will be against Australia, whereas the much-anticipated clash against neighbours and arch-rivals Pakistan will be taking place on October 14, which is a Saturday.

CWC 2023 Venues
Again, the venues have not been officially confirmed by anyone in the BCCI or ICC as of this writing. But there have been news reports which have touched upon which of the cities in India will be likely to get World Cup games.
As per the Espncricinfo, India’s matchet will be held in Chennai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Dharamsala, Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru.
Pakistan’s matches will be held in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.
Two other venues have been mooted in the past – Mohali and Nagpur. However, it seems as if the BCCI had a change of heart about these venues and they are now no longer in the reckoning.
The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is expected to play host to both the opening game of the CWC 2023 as well as the final.

However, prices for tickets are expected to be anything between Rs 1000-10,000 if past precedence is anything to go by.
And what’s more, ticket prices for games that are knockout matches will be priced even higher.
