Indian athletes will compete for medals in 39 sporting events at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China.

Hangzhou 2023 will be held from September 23 to October 8, but several activities, such as football, volleyball, table tennis, and cricket, will begin before the official start date. The events will be live on TV and live streaming will be available on SonyLiv app.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 19th edition of the quadrennial event was postponed until 2023 from September 2022. The Asian Games 2023 will feature 481 events over 40 sports (61 disciplines), with 45 countries sending delegations.

The defending Asian Games, world, and Olympic champion in the men’s javelin throw, Neeraj Chopra, leads India’s 655-member Asian Games squad. The 68-member athletics group – 35 men and 33 women – is India’s largest contingent in Hangzhou for any discipline.

The Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams, respectively led by Ruturaj Gaikwad and Harmanpreet Kaur, will make their Asian Games debuts in Hangzhou.

Olympic medalists weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, boxer Lovlina Borgohain, and wrestler Bajrang Punia will all compete in Hangzhou.

HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth, and PV Sindhu will compete in the badminton singles. India is yet to win their first Asian Games gold medal in badminton.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor, the Asian Games shot put champion, will defend his title in Hangzhou. Swapna Barman and Jinson Johnson, the defending heptathlon and men’s 1500m winners, will also be competing.

The 19th Asian Games also offers 74 Olympic slots for Paris 2024, including six for archery, ten for artistic swimming, 34 for boxing, two for breaking, two for hockey, ten for modern pentathlon, six for sailing, two for tennis, and two for water polo.
