The BCCI’s Apex Council will meet on December 22 to discuss the central contracts of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The council will also take a decision on the contracts for women’s domestic players.
According to a PTI report, the 31st AGM will be held virtually, with top officials joining online. One of the key points of discussion will be the contract status of the two senior Indian cricketers. Rohit and Kohli have now retired from T20Is and Test cricket, and currently play only ODIs for India.
In the previous contract cycle, both players were placed in the A+ category, even though they stepped away from T20Is after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. The current contract period runs from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025. Along with them, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja were also part of the top bracket.
Now, the big question is whether BCCI will continue to keep Rohit and Kohli in the A+ category or move them down to Grade A. A demotion would reduce their retainership by ₹2 crore. The current annual payouts are:

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill is expected to receive a promotion to the A+ category. Gill was earlier in Grade A, but with his rise as India’s Test and ODI captain and vice-captain in T20Is, he is likely to join Bumrah and Jadeja at the top level.
The meeting will also discuss revised remuneration for umpires and match referees, along with updates on digital platforms and administrative processes.
On the field, Rohit and Kohli recently featured in India’s three-match ODI series against South Africa. Kohli scored over 300 runs and won Player of the Series, while Rohit hit two important fifties in India’s 2–1 series win.
