Cricket World Cup Winners list, ICC World Cup Winners list, World Cup Winners, ICC Cricket World Cup Winners Wist from 1975 to 2019, ODI Cricket World Cup Winners List and all other details about the World Cup winners.
Ever since it was founded in 1975, every team wants to add their name in the ICC World Cup winners list. ICC World Cup has been the most coveted prize in the history of the game. The sport of cricket, which up until that point was largely limited to bilateral tours between nations, now had a tournament where the best teams in the world would compete against each other to determine a world champion.
Nevertheless, there have been multiple winners of the ICC World Cup since its inception. In this article, we are going to rank the World Cup winners depending on the number of titles they have won in their history.
6. England | ICC World Cup Winners
The most recent ICC World Cup winners also happen to be the sport’s biggest underachievers in many ways. England, as both inventors and spreaders of the game, had incredibly never won the ICC World Cup before hosting it for the first time in years in 2019.
And while the manner of their win was controversial, as they were declared winners on boundary count due to both the match and the Super Over ending in a tie, there was little doubt at the fact that the England team were deserved winners.
Led by skipper Eoin Morgan, they were a formidable unit with all bases covered and used their home advantage to the fullest. They followed that up with a T20 World Cup win in 2022 and would start favourites to retain their cup in 2023.

5. Sri Lanka | ICC World Cup Winners
Arguably both the greatest underdog triumph in the history of the World Cup as well as one of the more controversial World Cup wins in history, Sri Lanka nonetheless can say that they have been crowned world champions in the sport – and at a time when few arguably expected them to do so.
In 1996, Sri Lanka were co-hosts with India and Pakistan but were also an associate nation. What’s more, they were controversially already through to the quarterfinals without even playing a game as two of their group stage matches were forfeited by the opponents, who did not want to travel to Sri Lanka due to safety fears.
The controversies continued in the semi-finals where they were awarded another match by forfeit, this time due to an unruly crowd in Kolkata. But when they went on to win the final they added their name in the ICC World Cup winners list, few could argue the trophy was not deserved – even with a healthy dose of luck involved.
4. Pakistan | ICC World Cup Winners
Another underdog triumph in many ways, Pakistan did so in even more incredible circumstances – especially considering the fact that they were nearly out of the tournament at one point and needed not only to win their games but also hope that other results went their way.
That did happen but once they were through to the semi-finals, they were a formidable unit and they went on to lift their first in 1992 and so far only ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy in the 50 over format. Because of the talismanic leadership of Imran Khan, Pakistan was able to registered their name in ICC World Cup winners list.
So instrumental was his leadership to their ICC World Cup 1992 victory that it is quite telling that Pakistan have never made it to the final of a 50 over World Cup since, although they have thrice made it to the finals of the T20 World Cup, losing twice and winning the tournament once in 2009.
3. India | ICC World Cup Winners
India’s two ICC World Cup wins are unique in the sense that they came in two very different circumstances. The first of those came in 1983, when the Indian team, led by Kapil Dev, were very much the underdogs – they avoided a defeat to Zimbabwe solely because of Dev’s brilliant ton, despite being down to 17-5 at one point.
They went on to upset the mighty West Indies in the final and became part of prestigious ICC World Cup winners list and thus begin a relationship with the sport that is still going very strong all these years later. But, by the time 2011 rolled around, the sport and for that matter India were in very different states.

India were, by this point, the dominant financial superpower of the sport and went into the 2011 edition as favourites given they were hosting it. And they duly went on to claim the trophy, lifting their first world title in 28 years and becoming only the third team to win a World Cup multiple times.
2. West Indies | ICC World Cup Winners
The first team to win not only multiple World Cups but also back-to-back World Cups, the West Indies were the predominant force of the late 1970s and early 1980s, therefore it was no surprise that they were both the inaugural and second time ICC World Cup winners.
They were dominant in 1975, not only topping their group but also winning the semi-final against New Zealand comfortably by 5 wickets. They also won the final by 17 runs having set Australia a target of 292, which was a massive score in those days.
They then retained their trophy with a similarly dominant showing against England in the final four years later, albeit helped considerably by some pedestrian English batting during the chase. Amazingly, the nation then went into decline post-1983 and have not won a 50 over World Cup since.

1. Australia | ICC World Cup Winners
Undoubtedly the most dominant team in the history of the Cricket World Cup, Australia have won the trophy on a mammoth five occasions. This includes a hat-trick of titles from 1999-2007, a feat that no other nation has even come close to matching. And because of this Australia still remains most decorated side among the ICC World Cup winners.
Their first World Cup win came under the leadership of Allan Border in 1987, when they beat arch-rivals England in the final. But they had to wait 12 years for their next win, which came under Steve Waugh in 1999. They then retained the trophy in 2003 and 2007 under the leadership of Ricky Ponting.
They lost their grip on the title thanks to India’s win in 2011 but regained the trophy in 2015 when hosting the tournament, this time with Michael Clarke as captain. It is telling that no other team comes close to matching their dominance and consistency in this tournament.
