Shreyas Iyer’s Wrist Injury Update: In a recent cricket update, Virat Kohli stepped down for first two tests, and now the Indian cricket team faces another setback. Just two days before the first Test against England, scheduled for January 24 at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Shreyas Iyer, set to replace Kohli, had a scary moment during practice.
During a throwdown session in the nets, Shreyas was struck on his right wrist. Reportedly, he attempted to continue batting but left the net after facing only one ball. Witnesses observed the 29-year-old applying an ice pack.
Despite this incident, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not officially commented on Shreyas Iyer’s injury or confirmed his status for the opening match.

Adding to the uncertainty, Rahul Dravid, in a press conference on January 23, declared that KL Rahul would not be the wicketkeeper in this series. With Kohli absent, Shreyas was initially expected to miss out on the playing XI, and his preferred batting position at number four seemed uncertain.
Complicating matters, the Indian squad currently lacks a designated backup batter, and the BCCI selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, hasn’t announced Kohli’s replacement yet.
Rinku Singh’s addition to the India-A squad for the second unofficial Test against England Lions suggests that the replacement might be chosen from the India-A squad.

Two names, Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz Khan, are strong contenders for a maiden Test call-up. However, there’s also speculation about a potential recall for the experienced Cheteshwar Pujara, who has played in 105 Test matches.
As of now, the decision is pending, and the Indian team management faces a critical choice for the opening Test against England.
Shreyas Iyer has a notable record in Test cricket on home turf, having played seven matches, accumulating 430 runs at an average of 39.09, featuring one century and three half-centuries. Despite this, his participation in the upcoming series opener remains uncertain, pending further updates from the BCCI.
